Q. Is there any significant meaning behind the batik motif at MAS RRH@LIBRIS?

A Malay-Javanese cultural theme was selected to reflect MAS’s cultural and intellectual heritage. The batik motif “Sido Mulyo” (Sirih or betel nut leaf motif) that symbolises a state of readiness, continuity and eternity, as well as respectfulness and dignity – values dearly held by MAS – was selected and designed by Mr. Sarkasi Said, a prominent local batik artist. Batik cloth adorned with this motif is usually worn by the commoners. This selection is to reflect MAS’s moral values and his sense of humility.
